Anima & Ennui is the poet who seeks those golden moments of epiphany, only to recoil at the dark gravity of what has surfaced from his unconscious. It is those beautiful, precious memories that, when filtered through a certain weary lens, make the present feel futile and dull. It is the life spirit - the desire for life - that sometimes kills itself. Anima & Ennui is the eternal ebb and flow of inspiration and depression; two opposing yet coupled states.

In a varied display of lofi folk, classical guitar, and swirling electronics, the debut album “An & En” follows this internal struggle between inspiration and depression. Written in the wake of a depressive episode, the album is an exercise in seeing the light while embracing the dark, as much as it is a cathartic reflection.

As the album title alludes to, this debut work is also a brave acceptance that the cycle of inspiration and depression - Anima & Ennui, the two opposing yet synergistic forces - will continue, on and on, forever.

“An & En” was recorded in a disused crematorium/shared studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. The heavy metal band across the hall have made their way through the ventilation and onto the record, and the feelings of the building and all those that have passed through it have undoubtedly shaped it as well.

Anima & Ennui’s lead singles have garnered press attention from Atwood Magazine, Son of Marketing, Hi54LoFi, Bands of Tomorrow and playlist inclusion from GoldFlakePaint, among others.
